David Evans Weight of the Nation 1. Consequences The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has determined that 68.8% of the America is overweight or obese. 77% of obese children remained obese as adults. Only 7% of children who were not obese became obese as adults. High blood pressure and heart lesions can be seen in early childhood. This information was gathered from the Bogalusa Study. Since 1980 the rise in obesity in the nation has mirrored the information gathered from the Bogalusa Study. One of the main concerns on the impact of obesity is the increase in cardiovascular disease. The seven points to maintaining cardiovascular health are as follows: 1) Maintaining optimal cholesterol 2) maintaining normal blood pressure 3) avoiding diabetes 4) having a lean body mass index 5) not smoking 6) exercising 7) maintaining a healthy diet. Less than 1% of the nation meets all 7 of these criteria. Cryptogenic Sycosis is a form of liver disease known as fatty liver.
