3/13/08 13/03/2008 09:21:00 Brazilian Independence-  comes not to far after the Spanish  colonies, Napoleon  at this time replaces the Portugal Govt. and the Royal court flees to Rio, and the king of  Portugal appoints his son Pedro I emperor or brazil. Pedro I-  helped the Brazilian independence from Portugal, and in 1822 he gives  the independence to the country.  m Creole dominance  in Brazil in society, and independence brings very little social  change in Latin America.  Caudillos-  The thugs, strong men that are allied with the Creoles, their the  military authority in Brazil.  Fragmentation and Political - Creoles overthrow creoles, and they continue to  overthrow governments, and the Caudillios are war lords that come to power, with the  idea of regional independence.  Experimentation- Juan Manuel de Rosas .-Came to power in Argentina, he was a military leader,  that took to the political arena, that exploits to discontent of the masses, 1835-1852.  Regional autonomy, reconcile the wealthy cattle herding people, he wants to mend  fences between the two, and seek d é tente. , with the wealthy people in beano Ares.  -he was a dictator, that had his own army, limit freedom, undermine republican ideas. General Antonio Lopez Santa Anna -1797-1876, Mexico gains independence  from Spain. After the war for independence, he had free rain in southern Texas and  northern Mexico. He is the one that beat the boys at Alamo.  President Benito Juarez - their were reforms to reshape Mexican society in the  1850’s,  Suspends war payments to help keep economy good,  La Reforma- when liberals take over. Constitution of 1857 -Universal manhood suffrage, freedom of speech, but  downed the church, priest, etc.   Mexican Revolution - Napoleon III invaded Mexico when Juarez decided to cut  down on load payments.  Mexican Empire- Maximilian - Arch Duke of Austria, is on the throne of Mexico.  By 1876- French had to leave Mexico, and Max was killed, and his wife had to  watch, and after this Juarez once again try’s to pick back up the pieces of what the  French had fucked up on.  POLITICAL REVOLUTIONS IN THE WEST PART IV     The Revolutions of 1830 &1848-

Congress of Vienna - 1814-1815: anyone and everybody from all lower powers  to major powers. Trying to figure out what to do after Napoleon turned everything upside  down. They want some kind of balance. Ends the French Rev/ everything else, they est.  peace that lasts 50+ years, ends over
