Phase 5 IPIn the scenario with James, his father grew up in a family that was both physicallyabusive and mentally abusive. Lets start off by talking about James’ father by applying apsychological theory. The way that James’ father grew up was not the greatest. He livedin a household with parents who abused him physically and mentally. By what they did, they made him think that that was the real way to act and treat others. He knew nothingelse. Therefore, when he grew up and got married himself, had a child, he did not knowthe proper way to interact with them. Leading him to do nothing but fight with James’mother and constantly drink. He probably chose to drink to help suppress the memoriesthat he has of his childhood. The psychological theory that I feel would best fit James’father would be the frustration- aggression theory and the modeling theory.James’ father fits under the frustration- aggression theory because he is frustratedwith the fact that he does not want to interact with James because he is afraid of theaggression that could come out if James were to make him angry. Thus he turns hisaggression and frustration towards James’ mother and takes it out on her. He also fits themodeling theory because all he really knows is abuse. He came from a family who wasboth physically and emotionally abusive to him. It is as though James’ father suffers fromPTSD, post- traumatic stress disorder. The abusive that he under went as a child left alasting impression, therefore causing him to suffer from post- traumatic distress disorderand he more than likely does not even realize that he suffers from this. The drinking will also affect his psychological train of thought. Drinking causessome people to turn into a mean nasty person. Causing aggression and the ability to notfunction correctly. That could play a big part of why he chose to ignore James’ as a child.
