Format: The exam will be composed of 10 questions (some may have more than one part) worth 15 points each. Chapter 9: Ionic and Covalent Bonding Equations Heat of reaction, Δ H = Total of bond energies of bonds broken – Total of bond energies of bonds formed Operation Skills 1. Given a metallic and a nonmetallic main-group element, use Lewis symbols to represent the transfer of electrons to form ions of noble-gas configurations. 2. Given an ion, write the electron configuration. 3. For an ion of a main-group element, give the Lewis symbol. 4. Given a series of ions, arrange them in order of increasing ionic radius. 5. Given the electronegativities of the atoms, arrange a series of bonds in order by polarity. 6. Given the molecular formula of a simple compound or ion, write the Lewis electron-dot formula. 7. Given a simple molecule with delocalized bonding, write the resonance description. 8.
