The Dark Side Of The Light In the book The Kite Runner , Amir is the narrator and the main character. The book is the story of Amir growing into manhood and the struggles that came with it. It tells of his ups and downs and everything in between. This book is very straightforward. It does not hide details that some may believe are too vulgar to be written about. The Kite Runner tells of Amir’s relationships with others and the way he deals with them. The Kite Runner does an amazing job of showing the difficulties of a father son relationship. I feel that this really helps me relate to Amir and it gives the book a feeling of reality. The relationship that Baba and Amir have really makes it easy to feel that they are real people and not just characters in a book. Many children struggle with the feeling that they have to compete for the love of a parent. It is very simple to sympathize for the relationship that Baba has with his son Amir and his illegitimate son Hassan. Amir tries to earn Baba’s love by bringing home the winning kite, and yet, Baba does not notice. “The son wants desperately to be thought well of by his towering father, who is the sort of man brave enough to risk being shot by a Russian soldier in order to defend a young woman from rape (Bond).” This quote explains how badly Amir wants Baba’s love.
