END OF CHAPTER QUESTIONES!!!!! CHAPTER 6: REPRODUCING PRISON VIOLENCE 1. How does escalation contribute to prison violence? Poorly trained staff are unable to stop violence, and are unprofessional, which therefore  causes a backlash from inmates. It also creates new categories of violators, such as  gangs, and victims, such as snitches. 2. How does nonenforcement contribute to prison violence? When inmates see that the staff is not going to respond to rule breaking, they see how  far they can push the standards and rules until someone responds. 3. How does covert facilitation contribute to prison violence? When inmates see that the guards are promoting violence, they will not hold back as  much, and go as far as they possibly can. 4. Describe the controversy surrounding George Jackson. He was an inmate at Soledad, who after a riot in the prison during which black inmates  were shot, was charged with murdering a white CO after the COs in the case were found  innocent. He was later killed by prison guards in 1971 in an alleged prison escape. His
