What ways did scott and zelda fitzgerald fulfill the role of flapper king and queen? Scott Fitzgerald was considered the Flapper king because he was credited with originating the flapper in his first novel, This Side of Paradise . He was known as the expert on flappers for the way he presented the manners of the girls of the period of jazz and free speech. He revealed their sexual behavior and unique vocabulary. Zelda perfectly lived up to the characteristics that Fitzgerald created in his stories and may possibly have been his inspiration. Zelda had a reputation for violating the time-honored codes of sexual modesty. She was a legend to the fraternity brothers and was known to sneak out of her bedroom window to meet boys. She did well to maintain a scandalous reputation. How did the young women of the 1920s understand liberation differently from the way their mothers had? The flappers appeared extremely radical to their elders. The flappers were known to bob their hair, smoke cigarettes, drink gin, wear short skirt, and spend evenings in steamy jazz clubs.
