Pre-War Event Description Contribution to the Revolutionary War French and Indian War Was the American phase of the Seven Years' War, which was then underway in Europe. In a battle between British and French forces near Quebec City in Canada, the British gained control of all of Canada. This war put the British in debt which they thought the colonist should help pay. Which led to numerous acts that made the colonist very upset. Sugar Act Also known as the American Revenue Act or the American Duties Act, was a revenue-raising act passed by the Parliament of Great Britain on April 5, 1764. “While a handful of colonial leaders recognized the grave implications of the Revenue Act, it was not until news of the Stamp Act reached the colonies that the seeds of rebellion were planted in the hearts and minds of the broader public.” Stamp Act An act of the British Parliament in 1756 that exacted revenue from the American colonies by imposing a stamp duty on newspapers and legal and commercial documents. Colonial opposition led to the act's repeal in 1766 and helped encourage the revolutionary movement against the British Crown.
