They are relatively small and dont possess specialized vascular tissues. The gametophyte is the predominant vegetative phase in the bryophytes life cycle. The fern ranges from majestic tree ferns to bizarre staghorn ferns and they are vascular. In fern reproduction, globe-shaped antheridia form first, followed by archegonia. The egg forms in the archegonium where the sperm meets the egg for fertilization. The purpose of the lab is to look at and distinguish the difference between the two autotrophic plants, bryophytes and ferns. The different parts of the reproductive system were also observed for each type of plant in the experiment. Methods and Materials: Models and actual specimens of the ferns and bryophytes were observed and drawn. The models of the sexual reproduction were drawn and labeled to give a better understanding of how it works.understanding of how it works....
