Adam Cornwell Tommy Play Review I. Intro/ what is being attempted? A. In Illinois State University’s production of Tommy , they attempt to recreate a rock musical in which the main character, Tommy, becomes deaf, dumb and blind. Tommy then overcomes his illness and becomes an iconic leader who develops many followers. B. They attempt to show the importance of knowing where you came from and keeping your family and what is dear to you, close at heart. They succeed in doing this with the help of Venue choice, costumes, scenery, sound and lighting. II. Venue A. The Venue for the play was a Proscenium Thrust. I feel that this stage format was very helpful to the success of the play. The thrust added intimacy to the audience and the proscenium arch allowed for a large spectacle and room for a big cast. The stage area itself was also very deep. Because of the size, they were able to slide various parts of the set in and out with ease. B. I don’t see any other venue choice that they could have used to make it
