Question: What can be done to prevent sexual assault on campus? _____________________________________________________________________________________ Women in colleges and universities across the nation are among the highest risk group to be victims of sexual assault. While other crimes are present on college campuses, sexual assault is consistently the most alarming. Statistics show that approximately forty percent of college women are subjected to sexual assault at some point during their education (Ward, Chapman, Cohn, White, and Williams 1991.) In regards to the previous statistic, approximately 2,200 women at Indiana State University will be assaulted during their time on campus (2008.) Researchers have conducted studies about the consequences of sexual victimization, and it has been determined that it can be extremely detrimental to a person’s social and personal development (Macmillan 2001.) Women who are victims of sexual assault oftentimes feel as though they cannot trust others, thus they are more likely to be unemployed, have poor communication skills, cut ties with their family, and have no friends (Konradi 1993.) Young college women who have the potential to live happy and successful lives should not have to be subjected to this horrible experience. Campus police
