Kate Campbell Physics 122- Zides- Test 1 February 29, 2008 I do not agree with Lightman’s opinion that scientists are desperate for social and personal recognition. Many scientists are very dedicated to their work and work for decades in hopes of making one discovery that will change the world. I believe that many scientists do their work solely for the good of science and mankind. If someone really sought out social and personal recognition, there are other careers they could go into. However, most scientists do their work so that they can discover something that will lead to a greater understanding of the universe. Many people do not know much about Albert Einstein other than his theory of relativity and other scientific advances. However, he is world-renowned and people come visit his house in Princeton, near my hometown, every day just to see where he once slept. When a scientist makes a discovery that will change the way we do things or perceive things about the universe, they are a success in their field. Many scientists are not really interested in being in the limelight which is why they went
