EXOTIC ANIMAL LAWS 2 Identify the selected topic and explain two reasons for using it. The strengthening of the Animal Welfare Act is the subject for this paper. The Animal Welfare Act was the first federal law in the U.S. regulating animal care standards; therefore, these standards apply to Animal handlers, dealers, carriers, breeder, exhibits, and research laboratories. It sets the minimum standards of care that must be provided for animals. Some examples are the animal handling, food and water, veterinary care, protection from weather extremes, and proper sanitation of living areas. The Animal Welfare Act will protect animals in the circus, zoo, and marine life. Strengthening this law will increase the care of animals by ensuring all requirements are met for each animal. The federal government should reinforce the Animal Welfare Act to protect marine life animals, exotic zoo animals and exotic circus animals. The purpose of strengthening this act is to educate the people maintaining the animals to ensure the safety of both the animals and the caretaker. This can be accomplished by upholding standards within each facility. (United States Department of Agriculture National Agricultural Library 2015, Nelson 2013, Animal Welfare Institute 2015).
