1 Religious Imagery in “The Glass Menagerie” “The Glass Menagerie” by Tennessee Williams has many different religious images throughout the play. The first religious imagery is in scene two when the mom, Amanda, confronts her daughter, Laura, about not attending the business college like she was supposed to. Amanda explains to Laura how women who don’t marry become the “crust of humility”. The second religious image in the play is scene five, “Annunciation.” This scene portrays the caller, Jim, as being a type of savior for Laura. The third religious image I noticed in this play is in scene seven. This image begins when Amanda tells Tom, her son, to take the partially melted candelabrum from the Church of the Heavenly Rest in to Laura who is talking with Jim.
