2Personal Leadership PhilosophyA successful leader has the potential to influence and motivate people towards a goalthrough direction and assistance. Leadership is either an acquired trait or a natural-born talent.When it comes to being a successful leader, there is no room to waver. I need to be sure that thepeople who follow me believe in my vision. As a leader, you need to be committed to yourcourse. Having a clear plan is the first step towards achieving your goals. Communication is alsokey to being a successful leader. One needs to motivate people using simple language. You mustbe straightforward when addressing the people to earn their trust. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is anexample of an exceptional leader. He was determined and passionate about his job, and becausethe people believed what he spoke about was influential, they joined him. Dr. King was one ofthe most eloquent speakers in the United States and could capture the attention of millionsthrough speeches. He worked with powerful allies within the White House to create a platformfor his visions and goals. Any potential leaders looking to emulate Dr. King would be left a betterinfluence in society.As a young lad, having certain natural qualities could create a good leader in me. Thetrait theory of leadership explains that certain traits make a good leader. Identifyingcharacteristics that are positively associated with leadership is the first step towards becoming anexceptional leader. The breadth of behaviors related to leadership is integrity, intelligence, self-confidence, determination, and sociability. According to (Northouse 2018), ten characteristics areidentified to be positively associated with leadership. Of the ten characteristics, I possess six ofthem which are: a sense of responsibility and the drive to complete tasks, sense of personalidentity and self-confidence, readiness to handle the consequences of decisions, the ability tosway other people’s actions, innovation in problem-solving, and the ability to tackle stressful
