COMS 200 – February 20, 2008 20/02/2008 14:33:00 Yesterday Modernist motif of choosing a form or style that integrated the point of the text  – reflexive relationship between the form and content. ‘Mosaic’ style of writing – addressed the form and structure of his books in  relation to what he was saying. Modernist motif: it is not the medium’s content that matters, but rather the  medium itself.  The medium massages the sensorium, reorders it, without  regard for its content. (humans) artefact – language, laws, ideas, tools, technology, clothing, etc. –  are “extensions of the physical human body or the mind” Western bias towards left-hemisphere (linear, logic, visual) o Left vs. right hemisphere of brain: o Linear vs. holistic processing o Locgical vs. intuitive o Etc. These extensions “disturb all of his sense organs in such a manner as to  disturb all of his other senses and faculties,” The Tetrad o Left: Enhances (above) Retrieves / Right: Reverses into (above)
