1) Major themes in ecology. a) Case study: vanishing vultures. In india and Pakistan foxes r the major carriers of rabies. Vultures played a major role in the spiritual of parsis. b) Effects of environmental causes. c) The consequences of removing vultures and adding foxes. d) Ecology earlier was mostly issues seen in natural geographical world. Like nice drawings of flowers etc. e) But now its how we pollute things up. 2) Environment a) Abiotic – non living components. Eg. Air, temperature, soil, amount of light. b) Biotic – living component. Eg, predators, prey, parasites, competitors, diseases. 3) Different levels of ecological scale a) A lot of what we are studying is going from molecule level to the tissue level. And to the organism level. b) How and why do number of individuals increase and decrease over time? Whats causing them? (important research questions) c) Ecosystem ecology looks at the flow of energy and nutrients. Recycling of nutrients. d)
