Conversations of the West: Antiquity and Enlightenment December 7, 2005 11:00-12:15 TA Menachem Session 18 Gay Marriage The topic of gay marriage is a widely debated issue, not only in the United States but all over the world. Gay citizens around the world are slowly receiving equal rights for their sexual preference. The United States has been at debate over this topic for quite awhile now. Gay marriage is still illegal in the United States because some people think that the union of marriage should be between a man and woman, not a man and another man or a woman and another woman. Even though there are many gay citizens in the United States, they do not get to express their love to their loved one through marriage because U.S. law prevents this from happening. A lot of people say that marriage is a union between a man and a woman while others say that marriage is between two loved ones. This issue is debated everyday all over the country, in classrooms, at dinner tables, and in Congress. The topic is still not yet resolved and there seems to be no resolution in the near future. People who believe that gay citizens should not be allowed to get married believe in marriage as being a union between husband and wife. Many of these people have that belief through Christian teachings and the Bible. The Bible says that a marriage should be between a man and a woman, never between people of the same sex. Their Christian beliefs are influencing them in their opinion of how today’s society should work. They may also believe that the marriage of a man and a woman is the only natural choice

because reproduction can only be done by a man and a woman, making it logical, in their opinion, that a marriage should be between a man and a woman.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
