DEVELOPMENTAL THEORIES2Case StudyGavin is 14 years old and lives in a rural town in Minnesota with his mother, father, andyounger brother.He is very active in sports and is involved in baseball, football, wrestling, andbasketball.He is very competitive at sports but must practice hard to maintain his skills.Gavinis an A and B student in school, but he must study hard to maintain his grades.He has a lot offriends and is very popular at school, but is shy when meeting new people, especially girls.Girlsare becoming an interest, but Gavin currently does not have a girlfriend.He wants to be aprofessional football player when he gets older.His mom notices his voice is starting to deepen,and she finds it amusing that he is constantly looking for hair on his face or in his armpits.Gavin’s mom is an Oncology nurse and is going to school for her nurse practitionerdegree.She helps Gavin with his homework, takes him anywhere he needs to go, and attends allhis sporting events.She is very involved and pushes him to do his best at everything.Gavin’sdad is a welder and travels for work.He is rarely around, but he constantly yells at the boys andtheir mom when he’s home in between jobs.He does not help with homework or go to anysporting events.
