Accountability and Responsibility measuring for Global CompaniesAs companies grow and expand, it is vitally important to develop practices to measureand quantify the work that is being done by every employee from the top, down.It is evenmore important for global companies who now have locations in multiple continents, and evenmultiple states to have set parameters for the expectations of how each individual role is to beexecuted. One way that companies from small to large can measure accountability andresponsibility would be to implement specific descriptions for each job position. This can beused all the way from the janitor up to the CEO of the companies.Every position should be viewed as the same in the grand scheme of this process, aseach job has a set of expected responsibilities and tasks that need to be completed andfollowed to make sure that the company as a whole is constantly progressing forward. In asmaller company, the owner can typically decide the job description for a specified role.As thecompany expands, including key personnel and HR in the role development will help to makesure that the description includes all applicable tasks and expectations, while also making sureeverything is ethical and fair. The goal of having a defined role is so that any new hire will clearly understand theirposition and understand what is expected of them on a daily and year over year basis.“If yourgoal in fostering accountability is to know who to punish when revenue targets are not met orbudgets are missed, you will only succeed in creating fear (Browning, 2012).”While the use of defined roles can ultimately be used in a negative way, to punishemployees, it is clear that doing that can lead to fear and dissention in a company and willtypically stifle creativity and outside thinking.
