Sara Green Lesson Plan #2 Subject: Earth and Space Science Grade: 4 Content: Students will learn and memorize the three major types of volcanoes, and then have a hands-on-learning experience that mimics a real volcanic eruption. Prerequisites: Students should be able to read a world map and locate a point by using coordinates. They should also be able to identify the differences between mountains and volcanoes as well as knowing the difference between active and dormant volcanoes. Instructional Objectives: The student will recognize the three main types of volcanoes and then model one with detailed background information. (Knowledge, Application). The student will also identify where volcanoes are found in the world. (Comprehension) Instructional Procedure: Introduction- Introduce students to the world of volcanoes, read short exerpt from Magic School bus book about layers of the earth, so they know where the magma comes from (5-7min) Middle- Go through power point, detailing all three major types of volcanoes (5-
