HEALTH CARE INDUSTRY 2 Health Care Industry The health care industry is one of the fastest changing and growing industries in the world. According to "Health Care Industry Will Create 5.6 Million More Jobs By 2020: Study" (2015), “ With demand for health care growing at a rate twice that of the national economy, the industry is on track to create 5.6 million new jobs by 2020 ,” (para. 3). With so many different fields of interest and departments required to have a fully functioning facility, it is easy to see where all the complexity comes into play. So many new initiatives have come into play in recent years to change the way health care is delivered, one of the most prominent being technology. As technology continues to advance and become a more integral part of daily activities in a health care setting, we will continue to see it grow. How has health care changed in the last 10 years? There have been many changes in health care over the past ten years. Most of the changes involve technology; however, some changes involve policy and other legalities. One of the most talked about changes that has recently occurred is the Affordable Care Act. This has been one of the most controversial changes in health care because it aims to put the consumers in charge of their health care. The selling points of the ACA were that there were no longer exclusions for pre-existing conditions, covers preventative care, and keeps young adults covered until 26. However, it also requires that all Americans have health coverage or face fines. Another change is the requirement of electronic medical records (EMR’s). This has also been somewhat controversial in the sense that some of the older doctors are having trouble using the software or adjusting to using computers for everything. It has also raised concern for patient privacy. With
