Unformatted text preview: Jeremy Hansen Assignment #3 Bu sh's address to the nation covers the current standing of the U.S and Iraq in the "global struggle against terrorism." As Bush speaks he brings up the 2005 elections in Iraq and how well they went. Bush then reads on to say that last year radical Islamic extremist have increased violence against the Iraqi population. Bush talks about the obvious consequences of the mistakes that were made: initial war response, not doing a screen of people before accepting them to the Iraq police force, and so on. The Islamic extremists are growing in numbers and are gaining better position to topple the government. Insurgents are taking safe haven in Iran; Iran would be "emboldened" in its pursuit of nuclear weapons, and with support from terrorists groups this would be more of a threat to the U.S. This safe haven would also provide a staging ground for an attack of a threat to the U....
