Jeremy Hansen Problem Set #1 1a) A vestigial trait is a homologous trait in a species that serves no purpose. 1b) The GULO gene found in mice and humans is both homologous, and vestigial. In the human it is a vestigial trait because we now longer have the ability to synthesize vitamin C. When looking at mice it is just homologous.
