27 November 2006 Reason for Changing the Oil In most working machines, a lubricant is needed to keep the machine from binding up and not being able to work anymore. It is the same with a car, it is necessary to change the engine oil to keep the engine working and not going out of service before it is intended. Oil not only helps with the lubrication of the engine but also works to dissipate heat from the engine. Oil is a major component of what makes a car engine working, and with out proper maintenance major problems can arise and can be very costly to repair. The main purpose for oil is for it to be used as a lubricant. It is used as a lubricant by minimizing friction on moving parts of the engine by getting into the crevasses that need have high friction. Oil makes a great lubricant because it is a think liquid that tries to stay held together even when pressure is applied. By keeping oil between metals, the oil keeps the metals from grinding against each other and breaking down. The oil is also used in lubricating the seals
