Raffaella DiottiDecember 9th, 2014Submit date: December 10th, 2014Experiment – fast plant labAbstractThis experiment is to investigate Mendelian genetics with Wisconsin fast plant.The main purpose of this lab is to test the Mendel’s law of independent assortmentbased on the fast plant result of the phenotype. The entire lab consist of 2 parts whichare the producing of F1 generation by crossing of the parent generation and thenthrough cross the F1 generation to get the F2 generation. In the parent generation, 2plants can be distinguished as P1maternal parent and P2paternal parent. As refer totheir phenotype, P1is in green leaf and purple stem while P2is in a yellow-green leaveand green stem. Since both parent generations were planted by instructors, F1 seedswere given to be planted. Then F1 plants will be pollinated as to produce the F2generation. At the point, planting was done and analysis was required. The phenotypeof the F2 generation was observed and counted as to serve for supporting thehypothesis and doing the chi-square test. Introduction and Hypothesis testingMendel is the one who find the facts of cell division and sexual reproduction. Hedid his research in pea plants and discovered the law of segregation and law ofindependent assortment. Law of segregation states that paried alleles separate duringthe formation of gametes while law of independent assortment says each allelesegregates independently of the other allele in gamete formation. This law alsoindicates that traits that passed to the offspring are independent and in a ratio of 3:1 inthe monohybrid and 9:3:3:1 in the dihybrid based on the dominance to recessive
