2 1 1 9.2 Naming Alkynes Following Rules already laid down Name the parent chain (include the triple bond in the parent chain) Start counting at end closest to triple bond. If two choices- closest branch. (if a ring, C1 & C2 are the carbons in the triple bond, lowest # rule - subst) Write full name designating location of triple bond and the change in the suffix. CH 3 C H 3 CH 3 CH 3 3-methylcyclodecyne 2-methyl-3-hexyne OH Group outranks triple bonds Again, name the parent chain (include the triple bond) Start counting at end closest to OH group. Simply add “# - ol” to parent Example (not on test) 2-chloro-6-heptyn-3-ol Try problems 9.2, 9.16, 9.17a-c, 9.18a-f O H Cl C H 3 CH 1
