In addition to established political parties the nation has what is known as interest groupsthat are formed in the hope that they can help promote and lobby for things that are important tothe political parties. If you have the desire to become an informed member of society with regardto voting and the many different political issues, it is important to understand the political partiesand the interest groups along with how they operate.There are many different definitions but most identify interest groups as a formalassociation of individuals or organizations that attempt to influence government decision-makingand/or the making of public policy. Often, this influence is exercised by a lobbyist or a lobbyingfirm.What is a lobbyist? A lobbyist is someone who represents the interest organization beforethe government and is usually compensated for doing so.Lobbyists are required to register withthe government in which he or she lobbies for, whether on the state or federal level.The
