What is the difference between an iPad and a tablet is a frequently asked question nowadays, particularly from the would-be buyers of digital tablets, as Android tablets are gaining popularity as a possible replacement for more expensive iPads. I have, in this article tried to explain this difference from a buyer’s point of view. A tablet is a mobile computing device larger than a smart-phone, which is relatively thin and has a touch screen interface. Tablet is just a common name for a wide variety of devices with different specs from different manufacturers. It is primarily operated by touching the screen rather than using a physical keyboard. You may have the option to attach a keyboard, but a keyboard generally won’t come with the tablet. It has an operating system capable of running small programs. The most popular operating systems for tablets are Android and iOS. The iPad is Apple’s version of a tablet that runs on iOS operating system. What is the difference between an iPad and a tablet? The key differences between tablet and iPad are given below: While tablet is a common name for a wide variety of devices that usually function using a touch screen with different specs from different manufacturers, the iPad is Apple’s version of a tablet; The iPad runs on Apple’s iOS operating system while most popular operating system of other tablets is Google’s Android; Flash or shock-wave videos cannot be run on iPad and, therefore, you cannot see online video clips from YouTube and many other sites while other tablets can use these popular software for showing online videos; Multitasking is absent in iPad i.e. it can’t interact with multiple apps at the same time while other tablets running on Android OS have true multitasking i.e.
