Updated 1/5/20221 of 8SyllabusCIVE 4337 Transportation EngineeringUniversity of Houston Spring 2022The purpose of this course is to provide students with a solid introduction to the principles oftransportation engineering with a focus on highway engineering and traffic analysis. The materiallearned will provide the basic skill set that will allow students to solve transportation problems thatare likely to appear in professional practice and on the Fundamentals of Engineering exam (FE) andthe Principles and Practice of Engineering exam (PE).The material also serves as foundation forfuture coursework in transportation should students wish to pursue further coursework in the field.Course Requirements:1.One conceptual and six problem-oriented assignments.The objective of these assignments isto assist in the learning of course material, so discussion of assignments among students isencouraged, but each student has to turn in his/her own original work.2.Each student will be required to complete a group project.The project will deal with atransportation-oriented problem and will be completed in groups of four students.3.A mid-term and a final exam will be given.The mid-term exam may consist of a closed bookportion with short-answer questions and a problem-oriented open-book open-notes portion.The final exam is open-book open-notes.The following grade distribution will be used for the course:Homeworks20%Mid-term exam25%Group project20%Final exam25%Class attendance and participation10%Course website:UH Blackboard LearnInstructor:Isaac F.
