The theoretical portion of thecourse will be complemented by the use of laboratory exercises and strategic activities to develop the requisiteconcepts. This course is designed for students who are intending to major in a medical, engineering, or scientificfield. Successful students in this course will spend considerable time working on this course outside of class.Course Purpose:This is a physics course designed for students who have never taken an upper-level physics course but areinterested in acquiring more than a basic understanding of physics. This course also serves as preparation formore rigorous college courses in the future. For specific information on specific program requirements andtransferability visit with one of the counselors at Central Lakes College.Course-Specific Learning Outcomes:Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:Use dimensional analysis to solve problems that convert one measuring unit or dimension into another.Become proficient at theory discussions, problem solving, lab work, writing of lab and research reports, andcritical thinking.Meet the requirements of the competencies for Number 3, Natural science of the Minnesota TransferCurriculum. In this context, the student will demonstrate understanding of scientific theories, formulate andtest hypotheses, communicate their experimental and theoretical results both orally and in writing, andevaluate societal issues from a natural science perspective.Pierz Healy High School112 Kamnic StreetPierz, MN 56364
College-Wide Learning Outcomes:The students will be measured in their individual ability to:Demonstrate understanding of scientific theories and the ways in which scientists develop, express, andquestion theories in the field of physics.Formulate and test hypothesis by performing physics experiments requiring collection of data, its statisticaland or/graphical analysis, and an appreciation of uncertainty and sources of error.Communicate their findings, analysis, and interpretations with other students and the instructor orally andin writing.Topical Outline:1.
