I. Theatre is a collaborative art form No one works alone. The primary instigator in the Western Theatre is the Playwright, the primary source of inspiration and information in the Script. The Imagination is limitless, but without boundaries, the story gets lost… II. Three divisions: a. Theater: Is the building. b. Theatre: Is the expression, or the performance. c. Drama: III. The Play: a. The Playwright: Authorship? In a play the author would be the entire cast and crew of the production. b. Aristotle’s Unities: His ideas weren’t really popular until he developed his works called the “Unities”, which is basically giving guidelines on how theatre is supposed to work. i. Plot: 1. Logic: Logical in the frame rate of the story and to the audience. 2. Suspense: Keep the audience guessing what is going to happen next and keep them involved in the story. ii. Characters: Need to be dynamic and invoke empathy. iii. Theme: The unifying idea, what ties the entire piece of literature together.
