Rebecca Chan Period 4 S peaker : I believe the speaker is Shakespeare himself and not just writing in another persona. The use of “I” was present in the poem which led me to think it was Shakespeare as the speaker and addressing to the masses about making one’s love eternal. P araphrase : Sonnet 18 Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day? Should I compare you to a summer’s day? Thou art more lovely and more temperate: You are more attractive and mild. Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, Wild air move the younglings violently of May, And summer’s lease hath all too short a date: The summer is soon over too quick: Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines, At times the sun is too scalding, And often is his gold complexion dimm’d; And most times the sun is hidden And every fair from fair sometime declines, But even the most beautiful things loses its’ beauty By chance or nature’s changing course untrimm’d;
It could be caused by nature’s ever changing future
