2Applying Library Research SkillsA large problem in that occurs in today’s healthcare is the limited access to healthcare.Limited access to healthcare can occur due to multiple barriers for patients, clients, andconsumers. These barriers include geographic location, provider availability, transportationissues and mobility. For the past six years, I’ve worked in the wound care setting and oftenseeing many patients faced with limited access to healthcare due to all the reasons listed above.We often see patients that had they had all the means to access for healthcare, they might nothave ended up in wound care in the first place. With today’s technology constantly growing, thehope is that all providers will soon be able to do telemedicine visits and make patients moreeasily accessible to healthcare information online. This would immensely help with the limitedaccess to these consumers.Identifying Academic Peer-Reviewed Journal ArticlesCapella University offers multiple resources for students while they attend classes. Forassignments for my Developing a Health Care Perspective course, I have personally used theCapella University library and the Summon. The Summon, which is a search engine thatsearches within the university’s library database. When using the Summon, I searched keywords,such as “healthcare access” and “online health information seeking” to look for peer-reviewedjournal articles related to limited access to healthcare. From there, I filtered my search toscholarly and peer-reviewed journals, with publication dates within the last five years.
