Unformatted text preview: Hannah Metcalfe Geol 130 Lab Wed 10am The Power of Prayer Experiment Introduction Following the lectures on how the Greeks viewed religion and its relation to science we decided to investigate this relationship further. There are several previous studies that apparently show the power of prayer. Most of the research that had already been done was funded by the US government and undertaken on a large scale. The experiments looked at how people who are sick are affected by their own spiritual beliefs and practices. In general, these studies have suggested that people who are religious seem to heal faster or cope with illness more effectively than do the non-devout. Hover a few scientists have taken a further step: They're trying to find out if you can help strangers by praying for them without their knowledge. The mechanism though which prayer can change the outcome of a scientific experiment is unknown, and the mechanisms that have been proposed do not stand up to scientific scrutiny in the eyes of most...
