Organizational Issues Perhaps Mannheim can be appointed as a rig manager, his favoured position.  The  rig managers can then be organised as a self managed team with Mannheim as the  team leader.  Then he can report directly to management.  This solves the  communication problems that currently exist as well, Tom will get information from a  source that he trusts more than Kurt, and Kurt will be not directly oversee the rig  managers who dislike him, but will be on equal footing.   It may be a bit of a demotion, but we do know that this is the area where he has the  most experience and he probably prefers. Relate this to Fiedler model of leadership, his leadership style wasn’t suited to the  situation, so he has to be moved to a new situation Since there are concerns over his safety record, a new safety inspector can be  appointed who will oversee the safety of all the rigs.
