Lofgren believes that conflict is beneficial for business if it surrounds business and is not present in relationships between people or between groups. He therefore believes that functional conflict, or conflict that supports the goals of the group and improves its performance, is necessary and beneficial. On the other hand dysfunctional conflict, when conflict hinders group performance, is negative conflict and should be avoided. He is therefore has an interactionist view of conflict, or in other words, he believes that conflict is positive and necessary for a company to perform effectively. 2. The transition from Don Schneider to Lofgren was relatively conflict-free because they had been preparing for the transition since Schneider was still the CEO. Schneider made it clear that he would need a successor and therefore there was no conflict between Lofgren taking over Schneider’s position. Furthermore, Lofgren
