Stephanie Chin Prof. Cummings Jody Tolan Discussion Section 14728 Assignment 4 No Bosses at W.L Gore & Associates 1. Gores organizational structure follows the organic model the best. Some of the characteristics of the organic model are cross-functional teams, cross-hierarchical teams, free flow of information, wide spans of control, decentralization, and low formalization. Most of these characteristics apply to Gore & Associates. Like Davidson who works in marketing, sales, and sponsorships there are many cross- functional teams in this company, meaning that many people work with different multiple teams to do different multiple tasks. Although there is not a strict hierarchy in this company cross-hierarchical teams may sort of apply in that often time, sponsors, also belong to the teams they do not just supervise, although that it a part of the role, they are also active in the teams. Gore wanted to support a free flow of information which is the whole reason why he eliminated a hierarchy. Gore believed that new ideas could be shared more openly among friends and therefore by eliminated people who may criticize it increase the sharing of information among employees.
