Stephanie Chin Prof. Cummings Jody Tolan Discussion Section 14728 Assignment 4 1. Gores organizational structure follows the organic model the best. Some of the characteristics of the organic model are cross-functional teams, cross-hierarchical teams, free flow of information, wide spans of control, decentralization, and low formalization. Most of these characteristics apply to Gore & Associates. Like Davidson who works in marketing, sales, and sponsorships there are many cross- functional teams in this company, meaning that many people work with different multiple teams to do different multiple tasks. Although there is not a strict hierarchy in this company cross-hierarchical teams may sort of apply in that often time, sponsors, also belong to the teams they do not just supervise, although that it a part of the role, they are also active in the teams. Gore wanted to support a free flow of information which is the whole reason why he eliminated a hierarchy. Gore believed that new ideas could be shared more openly among friends and therefore by eliminated people who may criticize it increase the sharing of information among employees. Although there is not a strict span of control, sponsors help individuals get situated into groups and once they are situated each
