From a first order experiment in an RSM study the following relationship was obtained (The two levels of the factors are coded as - 1 and +1.): y = 9 . 875 + 1 . 875 x 1 - 3 . 125 x 2 . (a) Find the steepest ascent direction. (b) For the second set of experiments, the center point is obtained by increasing x 1 by 2 units. How much increase or decrease should be made in x 2 ? 2. Suppose in a system, there are 3 control factors ( x 1 ,x 2 , and x 3 ) and 2 noise factors ( z 1 and z 2 ). From an experiment, the following response model is obtained. y
