Lecture Section s Objective Assignment 1 1.1, 1.2 Distance, midpoint formula, translation of points 1.1: 3, 9, 11, 15, 21, 23, 25, 27 Graphs and intercepts of functions, standard form of equations of circles 1.2: 3, 5, 13, 17, 19, 41, 45, 55, 57, 74 b,c Understanding Goals: 1. To understand the rectangular coordinate system. 2. To understand how to find the distance between two points and midpoints of line segments connecting two points. 3. To understand how to translate points in a coordinate plane. 4. To understand how to sketch graphs of equations by hand. 5. To understand how to find the x- and y- intercepts of equations and points of intersection of two graphs. 6. To understand how to complete the square and write the standard forms of equation of circles. 7. To understand the use of mathematical models and to use it to solve real-life problems. Cartesian Plane (rectangular coordinate system) is formed by x -axis and y -axis. The point of intersection of these two axes is the origin .

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.

Jill Tulane University ‘16, Course Hero Intern
