DISPOSITIONAL, BIOLOGICAL AND EVOLUTIONARY THEORY 2 Dispositional, Biological and Evolutionary Theory Newspaper Article In today’s modern psychology there are many theories that intend to explain personality. In one side we have dispositional theories as they explain more about the relationship the traits of a person and their personality. The two most know dispositional theories to this day are first Allport’s Psychology of the Individual Theory and Trait and Factor Theories. Through time many pioneers have emerge such as Gordon Allport, Robert McCrae, and Hans Eysenck. Many of these pioneers had similar theories and believes about dispositional theories. Just as many other schools of psychology and their associated theories, dispositional psychology and its theories provide a starting point for personality. The following paper will discuss the differences that exist between dispositional, evolutionary, and biological theories in the study of personality. We will also discover the strengths of the big 5 personality test as they are use in the study of personality. First let’s start by understanding the differences between dispositional and biological theories. The first assumptions of dispositional theories are different from other theories because dispositional theories covered the basis of the study of human personality. Biological and evolutionary theories on the other hand state that the human personality and its development is control by the biological formation of an individual. External factors such as environmental factors may also influence the personality of an individual; this are viewed as part of evolutionary theories (Peterson, 2013). Theories that are biologically oriented argue that some environmental factors are essential for a species development but the factors are seem as the provider different opportunities for biological development. The importance of environmental factors in biological theories is how it influences an individual’s personality both functional and adaptive development.
