The purpose of this lab was to experimentally demonstrate and prove LeChatelier’s principle that a system, at equilibrium, will react to counteract the effects of changes. Procedure - First label two test tubes NaHSO 4 and Na 2 SO 4 respectively, and obtain about five mL of each solution in each tube. Then add ten drops of NaHSO 4 into wells A1-A3 and 20 drops into A4-A5. Add one drop of Thymol Blue to each well and then using a clean pipette add one drop of Na 2 SO 4 into well A1. Compare to well A2, then add a crystal of NaHSO 4 to well A3 and continue to add until a color change is noticeable. Then, using a clean pipette, take up the solution in well A4 and invert the pipette so that the solution sits in the bulb, place the bulb into a hot water bath. Do the same for well A5 but place the bulb into a ice bath. Record results. Then switch the pipettes and record the results again. Label and fill two test tubes MgCl
