Pupose: The purpose of this lab was to discover the similarities and differences of the reactivity of elements in the same row or in the same column of the periodic table. Procedures: Fill test tubes with about 1cm of water. In each tube, place a small amount of an element and observe the reaction, if any. Repeat so as to have three reactions per element and test each tube with phenolphthalein in one tube, add two to three drops of the PPT reagent of choice for the given reaction and observe the reaction, if any. Then neutralize the third solution with NaOH. For any element that did not react with water, place in 1cm of HCl and repeat steps.
