Hannah Metcalfe Soc 200 02/23/07 Social Problem Paper Being nice and      Friend-     ly    Friends is an  American   sitcom  about a group of six friends  living in the  Manhattan  borough of  New York City . It was created by  David Crane  and  Marta Kauffman  and was originally broadcast from  1994  to  2004 . The show focuses on the lives of a group of six  friends all in their twenties, three men and three women who  live  in  Greenwich Village . The six characters all have very different and distinct  personalities. There is the rich, spoiled "daddy's girl"  Rachel   Greene ; the neurotically clean restaurant chef  Monica Geller ; the  quirky,  New Age masseuse  and acoustic  singer-songwriter   Phoebe   Buffay ; the lady-charming, slow minded actor  Joey Tribbiani ; the  joke-cracking office worker  Chandler Bing  and nerdy but romantic  palaeontologist   Ross Geller .
