Dangers of plastic straws Plastic straws present various forms of dangers and hazards to different kinds of species and the environment. To start with, poor disposal of these straws negatively affect aquatic animals when they consume them resulting into suffocation which may cause their death, for instance the case of Sea Turtle spotted in the off coast of Costa Rica (Knight, 2013). Studies indicate these plastic straws constitute 10 per cent of waste deposited at the U.S coastline. In the long run, the toxic substances attributed to these plastic straws end up in the food chain as they are transformed into microscopic particles (Wilshire, Nielson & Hazlett, 2008).
