Religious Studies 101: Essay Assignment Choose one of the following topics and develop an essay of about 3-4 pages (600-800 words) on the topic that you have chosen. Be sure that your thesis (the argument that you are making) is clear and that you follow it consistently throughout your paper. Essays should go through a process of outlining, drafting, rewriting, and proof-reading BEFORE they are submitted. Essays are expected to be mechanically and grammatically correct (i.e., PROOFREAD), according to established standards of written English and the inclusive language standards for this department. They should have margins of one inch. Pages should be numbered. You should also have a title page with your name on it . You must include a bibliography or “works cited” page, and cite these materials properly in the body of your essay. Essays are due Wednesday, December 5. NO LATE SUBMISSIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED. The essay accounts for 20% of your final grade. All work is pledged work. Essays will be graded according to the following standards: 1) clear formulation of a thesis statement; 2) consistency of arguments to support that thesis; 3) supporting documentation provided from
