A disciplined routine, including a healthy diet and focused fitness regimen can resultin increased longevity and an elevated quality of life.It is no rumor; those individuals who follow a steady diet plan and disciplined fitnessroutine live a longer, fuller life. Though the art of health and fitness is very popular todayin the 21stcentury, it’s no stranger to us. The roots of fitness date back tens of thousandsof years; it has been a part of human routine and lifestyle for quite some time. As wehumans began to establish life on this planet we realized quickly that continual huntingand gathering of food was necessary for survival. Lance C. Dalleck, M.S. and LenKravitz, Ph.D. tell us in their article “The History of Fitness” that it was common fortribes to go on ”one- or two- day hunting journeys for food and water”. They go on to tellus that after a successful hunting excursion the tribes members would attend “celebrationevents including trips of six to 20 miles to neighboring tribes to visit friends and family,where dancing and cultural games could often last several hours. This Paleolithic patternof subsistence pursuit and celebration, demanding a high level of fitness and consisting ofvarious forms of physical activity, defined human life”. Those who practiced fitness wereable to stay away longer, allowing them to further provide for their families.We all know that watching ones diet and hitting the gym can result in a more attractivefigure, and a slimmer waist line, but more importantly it can present numerous healthbenefits. Cutting saturated fats and increasing the amount of fiber one takes in, in a daycan greatly reduce the risk of several different cancers and heart disease. Indulging in ahealthy dose of fruits and vegetables will stock ones body with much needed vitamins2
and minerals which will strengthen the immune system, allowing the body to ward offunwanted sickness and disease.Another key benefit attained through healthy eating and fitness is lowered bloodpressure. Those who are affected by this terrible condition commonly are unaware oftheir diagnosis.
