Type of Research and Brief Summary This is a correlation study. The study was trying to find the levels of motivation, and how they change through different grade levels. The participants of the study are 797 students in 3 rd through 8 th grade from two different school districts in California, in the San Francisco Bay Area. This study was conducted by giving these 797 students questionnaires based on Harter’s scale of extrinsic and intrinsic motivation. These students were given this questionnaire by administrators during school hours, and then the researchers compared the results of the questionnaire with scholastic results such as grades and standardized tests.
