B.F. Skinner’s Baby in a Box Write up Lisa Jones At first, I thought Baby in a Box by B.F. Skinner was a joke. After finishing the article was when I realized it was serious. The article described caring for children until the toddler age by leaving them in a glass box, such as an ornament or high priced jewelry. The author stated the obvious concerns for allowing a child to spend the first few years of his or her life in a box. He reassured those that were nervous that the child would have adequate care provided. The child would have clean sheets, a temperature controlled room, and allowed interaction time with his or her mother. The benefits of this system is allowing the mother to have adequate rest, the baby kept comfortable, and for ease with transitioning into the family schedule. Currently, society is always looking for ways to accomplish more tasks in lesser amounts of time. Skinner’s invention would allow sheets to be changed in seconds. This is a wonderful
