April 26, 2007 Psychology Review Session - Obesity is a problem of evolving psychology. Evolved in other era and now we are in a new era. - Why do we like to eat the things we do? - What is problematic about our current food selection? - Feast mode: Things that are inexpensive to buy and to eat, eat a shit load of bad things - Ashe’s Study of Conformity: People in front of a projector with lines, must say which ones are alike, confederates in the room say the wrong answer, most people would agree with confederates - Non somniacs sleep and therefore dream sometimes. - People don’t thrash around in their dreams because body is paralyzed besides for eyes, muscles are inhibited - SSRI vs. Tricyclic: Dirty drugs have more side effects because they aren’t as specific and can effect many more neurotransmitters - SSRI= increase serotonin by stopping the reuptake - Tricyclics= Just increase serotonin - Big 5: Useful way to talk about personalities, enough to cover full range of personalities - Milgram, Ashe, most know other important big names
